NEWS: Six Feet High


Daniel Meadows’ photograph John Payne and friends with pigeon Chequer: Portsmouth, April 1974 is on display this summer on Sheffield railway station, six feet high.

It’s a collaborative project between Sheffield University and the Hepworth Wakefield where the photograph was on show throughout last winter in the exhibition ‘Modern Nature’. A poem has been written. Together, picture and poem, look like this:

TV documentary. 1969. Beautiful, Beautiful. BBC Omnibus about four photographers. At one point Davidson, who was working on East 100th St. (his book about Harlem) says: "I poise, not pose, people... People have an innate dignity and they will set themselves before the camera in a dignified way. And they will choose what they will give."
